We Missed You!!

Recently Safe Harbor hosted their 4th Annual QVC Event, which provided an evening of fun to raise money to support our new shelter. Attendance was down from recent years, but we still were able to raise over $40,000 in much needed funds for our Shelter. It was great to see the support we received, but WE MISSED YOU!
As you know, we have completed construction of the second floor and are now providing a new home for 20 homeless single women, in addition to our 20 homeless single men. The shelter opened in the worst rain storm of the season on March 13, 2010 with over 200 staff, county, commissioners, borough officials, state representatives, business owners and most of our volunteers and friends of Safe Harbor in attendance. Safe Harbor is now providing food, clothing, shelter and a safe place to live for more men and women than ever. We are continuing our Community Lunch Program which provides over fifty plus hot lunches that many of our men and women missed during the construction of our new shelter. These lunches have been a blessing during these very difficult economic times in our county. However, we are faced with some hurdles as we get back to providing services and support for our men and women that live at their new home at Safe Harbor.
  • The first hurdle was that we continue trying to meet our campaign goal of approximately $168,000 - so each month we will need to pay the interest on our loan.
  • The next hurdle came when we were told that our sprinkler system didn’t meet code, which needed to be addressed and would cost approximately - $1,500+ to fix.
  • Another hurdle was that the pavement to the front doors of the shelter didn’t meet the code for physically challenged individuals and will need to be addressed at the cost of around $1,500 - $2,000.
All of this plus the increased cost of operating the new, expanded shelter makes us miss your presence at our fundraiser back in April, BUT since you couldn’t make it to the Fundraiser, we want to give you a chance to support the Shelter anyway. Please consider one of the following to help us get over our “hurdles” and the overall operating expenses.
  1. Pay the interest and principle on our loan this month - $1060.66 (TEN YEAR LOAN)
  2. Send $500 to help fix the sprinkler system.
  3. We need 3,000 bricks for our front entrance to memorialize a loved one, give as a lasting gift for a birthday, wedding, Bar Mitzvah or confirmation….just to name a few suggestions. Go to our website to order: www.safeharborofgwc.org - to help pay for the grading problem - $100/ brick
  4. Assist us in any way possible in paying our utility bills, which run approximately $1900+/mo.
  5. Assist in paying our water and sewer bills, which costs approximately $400-500/mo
  6. Assist in the overall support of our staff costs, which run around $25,000 a month.
We really need your continued help and support for these men and women who are less fortunate than us. Thank you. Remember WE REALLY MISSED YOU!!!
