Lighthouse Mission

Safe Harbor of Greater West Chester is an independent, nonprofit organization providing food, shelter, friendship, counseling and recovery opportunities to homeless men and women in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Lighthouse Goals and Objectives

Safe Harbor's objectives focus on rehabilitation, treatment, employment, financial stability and housing for its residents. Specific outcomes measured are: employment, savings, entering job training or treatment programs and, ultimately, moving into stable housing.

Success is achieved when a resident leaves for a safe housing environment. This could be with family or friends previously unwilling to accept this person, a supportive housing institution that provides the help an individual needs, or a private or shared apartment of their own. Over the past 12 months, Safe Harbor has reached this level of success with 25% of the people who have been admitted to its shelter.

For the coming year, Safe Harbor will seek to maintain and improve upon this success rate. We are also striving to better understand those who fail to sustain the successes they have achieved or have not fully taken advantage of the opportunities to better themselves. We believe the process of working with the homeless community, like many social service areas, requires a program that is dynamic, constantly evaluating itself and making adjustments to better serve a population with complex needs.
