"When all is said and done, we will not be judged by the wealth we've accumulated or the buildings we've built, but rather by the way we've used our resources to help those most in need. More than 15 years ago, we came together to address the problem of homelessness in Chester County. The idea started simply as providing warm beds for those with no place to call home, but the community worked together to make Safe Harbor so much more. Today Safe Harbor continues to open doors and opportunities for those who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn."

“To give secure shelter from the storm of life in a time of need is what Safe Harbor is all about. I can still remember the first time I saw a homeless person, wrapped in a filthy blanket, sleeping on a steam grate on a cold January day in Philadelphia. I couldn’t imagine how that person could survive. When homeless people started appearing on the streets of West Chester, our community refused to look the other way. Instead, out of the caring efforts of many, Safe Harbor was born.”

"Homeless people have different backgrounds, life experiences, abilities, and goals—but they share the common experience of poverty and a lack of resources. They also share a common humanity, and deserve our compassion and respect.

With imagination and commitment, Safe Harbor of Greater West Chester has the ability to provide resources and tools that lift homeless people out of crisis and into new lives. Homelessness is solvable: Things do not have to stay as they are.

The Chester County Dept of Community Development (DCD) believes in the fundamental right of people to rise above poverty and homelessness by offering financial resources and support to organizations like Safe Harbor of Great West Chester. As a result of funding from DCD, Safe Harbor is able to provide food and emergency shelter annually to over 225 single homeless men and women throughout the year. In addition to the service dollars awarded to the organization, DCD is also proud to be assisting with funding opportunities to support the shelter's expansion project that will ultimately provide beds for an additional 20 single homeless women."

"Safe Harbor has been the sole provider of the 4 only existing beds designated for homeless single women in Chester County.  How delighted we are that you are able to expand services with a second floor dedicated to women who are at their most vulnerable.  May God bless the work of Safe Harbor and our sisters in need."

"I love living in a community whose people take care of each other, and Safe Harbor is one of the ways we do that.  Adding an addition to double their capacity is a great idea, and I'm proud to swing a breaker bar on their behalf."

"I am excited to be involved in the "Raise the Roof" campaign. It is such a positive and exciting effort designed to support and empower women in the most difficult of circumstances. Helping people regain their self respect and independence is the worthiest of causes. When we help those in need we support the community, the county, and the country. I am proud to be part of this honorable endeavor for Safe Harbor."

“As one who has participated in early programs in the West Chester community that spoke to the food and shelter needs of the area's homeless, it was a blessing for me to see the present Safe Harbor come into being (in the very building that Tom Donovan used to service my car). I have watched and sometimes participated in the evolving programs at Safe Harbor that have made it a model for ministry to the homeless. It is exciting to know that not only are food and shelter provided, but there is a concerted effort to bring about rehabilitation. I congratulate those who currently are involved in the furtherance of Safe Harbor's mission, namely, the provision for those single women who are presently homeless.”

I explained to some local friends what Safe Harbor does and the services that provides.  Many folks simply didn't know that we had such an incredible and generous facility here in the Borough.  I could re-list the conversations that I've had, but it would take pages to re-tell those chats, the reactions and questions about Safe Harbor

I can't imagine losing my home and everything else and finding myself on the street. But heaven forbid, if it ever does happen, I hope that Safe Harbor is there for me.  Everyone talks about value for their dollar, and Safe Harbor does so much on so little.  We need to support them every which way that we can."
